!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Yes, I know it’s dirty inside, but I can clean it.
And I know it’s 2WD, but I could live with that.
Also, there’s this lightly banged-up 4WD one.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It’s much cleaner inside than the other one. And 4WD, b ut it’s a touch more than I want to spend.
T his dealer has something else I’m probably more likely to want:

Cheap, low miles, manual, just like my previous Ranger. I hope it’s still there when all this mess is finally done.

Because then you’d have to own a Ram

4.7 is gonna shit the bed, HARD. It wasn't an engine when it was new. And it only gets worse with age. Also, these eat front suspension parts like hungry hungry hippos. Ball joints and tie rod ends good for 40k tops.

I don’t mind Rams, but I’m not sure if I’d be allowed to own one because I’m not a dudebro.

Noted. Are the 5.7s any better?

Truth be told, I want the Ranger more. It even has about the same miles as my old one had when I got rid of it.

I want it. I might go look at it today, but I can’t get it yet.

Honestly, I don’t know Rangers well enough to comment there. But you should burn the rams before they get loose again.

Rangers are decent little (very little) trucks. I do remember the cab felt more cramped than my Fiat 500 did, but I didn’t mind.

Definitely don’t get the Rams as everyone has said the 4.7's are junk and probably s lower than the Ranger.
I would think in this price range you could almost definitely do better on Craigslist with a private seller.

It’s ok, but I like the Ranger better and it’s half the price. I really would like to stay below $5k if I’m honest. I can go a bit higher, but only for something I really want.

+1 on Rangers feeling cramped. I know it not a fair comparison, but my fiancee’s ‘03 regular cab Ranger feels coffin-like compared to my ‘97 S10 ext. cab. Also, the Ranger’s I4/5mt feels completely gutless. It can’t get out of its own way. Freeway merging is “interesting ”.

M y ‘09 felt like to me like it had perfectly adequate power. I barely ever had anything in the bed, and it wasn’t fast but it could hold its own.

Is that 4.7 the same one that was in the Jeep Liberty? Everyone seems to think poorly of that engine.
I don’t get why you’re not just going straight for the Ranger. Seems like your jam. Do you need to seat 3+ people?

No, that was the 3.7 which was also apparently hot garbage.
I do like the Ranger a lot, but they do have a couple shortcomings. It’s so claustrophobic inside, the HVAC fan is a joke (high setting is like an asthmatic kitten gently breathing on your arm), and they are noisy. I can put up with all that though. I just like the idea of having a manual F-150, and the Town Car is a bucket list car for me.

I’d stay away from those year dodges. The 5.7 is a much better engine but it has some issues of it’s own. Id go with something like what’s in the link above. The engine is dead simple and basically bulletproof and so is the transmission. Easy maintenance and they will make parts for it until the last drop of dead dinosaurs is pulled out of the ground. We have a GMC Sierra at work with 476000+ miles. It’s still on the original engine and tows everyday. GM doesn't do a whole lot right but they got trucks right from 99-2007.

Of the 3 of these in my family, 2 are 4.7s.
One has needed a timing cover gasket and a water pump. It has 218k miles currently.
The other has needed valve cover gaskets and an intake gasket. It has 328k miles.
None have needed any suspension work until over 150k miles.

Decent power for daily use, reliable, 22 mpg hwy.
Why are they terrible?
